The company’s pioneering 3D ultrasonic echolocation technology will continue to be marketed under the “Toposens®” brand.
Toposens GmbH, manufacturer of the world’s first 3D ultrasonic sensor for 3D collision avoidance in autonomous systems, has found a new, high-level owner. The vendee is Mey Industry GmbH, which will acquire all trademark rights and patents of Toposens GmbH as part of an asset deal and transfer them to the newly founded “MEYSENS GmbH”.
Mey Industry GmbH, holding company of WEBASTO principal shareholder Gerhard Mey, has recognised the potential of the innovative product range of Toposens GmbH. In the future, it will be a strong partner at the side of the existing team.
Mey Industry GmbH integrates revolutionary 3D ultrasonic technology to expand its portfolio with Industry 4.0 solutions.
The transfer of business operations from Toposens GmbH to MEYSENS GmbH enables Mey Industry GmbH to integrate the groundbreaking technology into its existing portfolio. With mechanical engineering companies such as Maschinenbau Leicht GmbH and Mey Maschinenbau Prien GmbH & Co.KG as well as ARTHUR Bus GmbH under its umbrella, it will thus be able to offer its customers an even broader range of Industry 4.0 solutions in the future.
Gerhard Mey, CEO and founder of Mey Industry GmbH on the acquisition:
“Toposens GmbH has developed a great technology with potential that should not be underestimated. We are pleased to integrate this technology into the Mey Industry GmbH family together with the existing employees as “MEYSENS GmbH”. The ECHO ONE®→ sensor from Toposens uses unprecedented 3D ultrasonic technology for the detection of objects in 3D space.
It has already been used in a wide range of applications from automotive to robotics and will complement our existing offering. We are convinced that the combination of Mey Industry GmbH’s know-how and Toposens’ technology will create new opportunities for growth and success throughout various industrial automation solutions.”
Further development under new leadership.
The existing Toposens team is set to operate under a new leadership: Newly appointed CEO is Alexander Rudoy→, co-founder and originally CTO of Toposens GmbH. As the inventor of the groundbreaking 3D ultrasound technology, Mr. Rudoy will use his extensive knowledge and experience to lead MEYSENS GmbH to success as it continues to open up new markets. Another co-founder and former CEO of Toposens GmbH, Tobias Bahnemann→, will continue to be support the company as an advisor.
“Here at Toposens, we challenged the status quo of the robotics industry by developing a cost-effective, reliable solution for 3D collision avoidance in mobile robots. Our reputation has been built on this. Since our founding in 2015, we have spent years researching and developing 3D ultrasonic sensing technology and invested heavily in building a team of hardware and software experts. We are now even more excited to have such a very strong partner on our side to take our technology to the next level,” adds Alexander Rudoy.

About MEYSENS GmbH
Munich-based MEYSENS GmbH was formed in 2023 out of Toposens GmbH, which itself was founded in 2015. It consists of experts in integrated systems, hardware development, 3D sensor technology and digital signal processing. Together they have successfully developed the world’s first 3D ultrasonic sensor based on the principle of bionics, which mimics the echolocation technology of a bat to provide robust, cost-effective and precise 3D data points at close range. Unlike existing sensor technologies that can be affected by lighting conditions, reflections and weather, MEYSENS has developed a system that maps 3D data in real time and uses object recognition software to control autonomous systems such as AGVs in even the most challenging environments. MEYSENS’ customers include some of the world’s leading companies in the robotics and automotive industries.
